Five, make this article six, posts here and over 1000 readers. I think this may be a record for me. For an old man this rather makes me thankful as what I place here is going to be a rather sober commentary on where I find myself in life now. When I state, “myself,” I am speaking of all of us in which I find myself in the middle of you and I. It’s an interesting thing for me as I grew up watching westerns on TV in black and white. Look at me now! Yeah, but don’t look to closely.
I want to speak of life here but not as a know-it-all. In my experience, life is precious, not possible to duplicate, and easily lost. So easily lost that a bullet weighing less than one ounce can quickly end nineteen years of life. A knife blade can do the same as can of couple of ton vehicle. Life is not to be taken for granted! But it is, a lot.
I almost lost my fifteen year old son to cancer. Osteogenic Sarcoma in his right knee. Docs gave him four hours of life unless the antibiotic worked. It did, and he is now a father of two. Death preys on each of us and is never further than around the closest corner. It bears thoughfulness before condemning a person doesn’t it? It is so easy to take a life that I marvel that our world ever got this far. Nations have nukes in their closets and are just hankering to use them. Get ’em out and let’s party!
Sobriety is a double edged sword. On the one edge you have the ability to make strong decisions. On the other edge you can just swing your blade at whatever bothers or irks you. The Sword of Vagary. Politicians use this sword through out history and a bunch of average guys are sent to die for . . . for what? Usually someone’s property as defined by imaginary lines drawn on some map or other.
All of this has brought me closer to God as I now understand the Book of Revelations which I first wrote a paper on in college. It was community college at that time. “Literature From the Bible” was the course and the text book. I love literature but I’m not really big on poetry. Most of it sounds as though it was written on the “john.” Picture that if you are of the mind.
